Nguyen Wins Seven Card Stud World Championship AT WSOP
This weekend some of the top names in poker arrived ready to make their run at the 2010 World Series of Poker. The action was fast and furious and on Sunday, Men Nguyen captured the Seven Card Stud World Championship title.
The Seven Card Stud tournament is one of the smaller events during the WSOP, with only 150 players entered. The buy-in was $10,000, but it was well worth it for Nguyen who banked $394,807 for his win. Brandon Adams finished in second, winning $243,958.
Michael Mizrachi had been the story for most of the tournament. Mizrachi was attempting to win his second World Championship event after taking top honors in the Player's Championship earlier in the WSOP. Mizrachi finished sixth in the Seven Card Stud tournament.
Canadian player Pascal LeFrancois also completed a successful tournament on Sunday when he won Event #8, a No-Limit Hold'em tournament with a $1,500 buy-in. Max Steinberg finished in second and Kevin Howe in third. LeFrancois won $568,974 in the tournament that had 2,341 players entered.
Event #9 was the third tournament to finish up on Sunday, with James Dempsey winning the Pot-Limit Hold'em tourney. Over 600 players paid the $1,500 buy-in, and Dempsey walked away with $197,470. Steve Chanthabouasy had the chip lead for much of the tournament, but ended up finishing second.
Two tournaments that began Friday and two more from Saturday are all still in progress. On Sunday, only one event began, a Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better World Championship tournament with a $10,000 buy-in. A No Limit Hold'em/Six handed event starts today at noon.
