Online Poker Having a Negative Affect Socially in UK
Apparently the online poker boom that is going on is not limited to the United States, as the phenomenon is having negative affects in the United Kingdom.
The UK currently posseses over 450,000 people who are playing poker online. A recent survey from the company Dialadealer.com reports some staggering statistics.
The company took a survey of 1500 players who play poker often online. 34% of the people surveyed say that they have canceled social engagements to play poker. Also, players age 18-34 said that 22%of them play online for over 30 hours a week.
Add alcohol to the mix and the stats get even crazier. 13% of these people surveyed said that after coming home from having a few drinks they played cards online through the night and went straight to work the next day without sleeping.
By, 2007 the poker trend is expected to slow down, so the worry is not very high that this business of online poker and its negative affects will be felt for a long time.
