Online Poker Players Turn Off Computers And Head To Sin City
Electric bills may be down over the next month all across the world with thousands of online poker players trading in their computer screens for the fast paced live action. The World Series of Poker begins this Friday and online players have already began descending on Sin City.
Las Vegas hotels will be filled with online poker players who will be testing their skills in live action throughout the WSOP. Many different types of tournaments will be on display, and online players. as they do every year, will attempt to prove they can play away from their laptops.
Most online players that are serious about their poker have multiple screens set up wherever they play normally. At the Vegas hotels, however, it will be difficult to replicate whatever system is used in the comfort of their own home. While some players will stay away from the online scene all together, others will want to stay fresh in between live events.
"I plan on bringing my laptop and playing online at night or during breaks from the tournaments I will enter," said online player Matt Wilkens. "Hopefully, I will do well enough at the tables that I won't have to play too much on my computer."
The first event of the WSOP begins on Friday and will be for casino employees. Any casino employees from around the world can enter the tournament, and it is not limited to just poker room employees. The tournament has had thousands of players in the past, and a big turnout is expected this week.
Other tournaments that will be starting during the first weekend of the 2010 WSOP include a Poker Player's Championship on Friday, a No-Limit Hold'em tournament on Saturday, and an Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better event on Sunday.
