Phil Ivey Closes In On World Series Of Poker Main Event Leader
If the World Series of Poker and ESPN are looking for a poker pro to make a run and carry their Final table coverage of the Main Event, they may have found their man. Phil Ivey, one of the most recognizable names in the game, is currently second in the chip count.
There are only twenty-nine players left in this year's Main Event, and Ivey is quickly closing in on the chip leader after an amazing day of poker Tuesday. Billy Kopp is in the lead with 15,100,000 chips to Ivey's 12,200,000.
"This is a dangerous situation for all of these players to be in," said poker analyst Brian Brells, "Phil is one of the best players in the world, and being near the top of the chip stacks gives him all the ammunition he needs to make a run at the title."
The past several years at the WSOP, the Main Event title has been reserved for lesser known players. If Ivey makes the final table, the attention will almost solely be paid to him from ESPN and fans over the next several months. Ivey has already won a bracelet at the WSOP this year, but this will be a much different experience.
The final table will be determined today, and then the players will receive a mental break for a couple of months. The Final Table is set to resume on November 7th, and at that time the players will go on until a champion is found.
