Phil Ivey Wins Another Bracelet At World Series Of Poker
Phil Ivey is a champion once again. Ivey has long been considered to be one of the best poker players in the world, and Event 8 at this year's World Series of Poker is yet another example of why he has such high standing among his peers.
Ivey won a Deuce to Seven Draw Lowball (No-Limit) tournament, a game that he admits that he rarely plays. he actually admitted that he does not know much about the game, but it did not look that way to anyone watching him win his sixth bracelet.
Ivey finished ahead of John Monnettee to capture the bracelet. Monnette won $59,586 for his second place finish, and Ivey won $96,367 and a bracelet for closing in the top spot. The buy-in for the event was $2,500, and there were 147 entrants.
Meanwhile, Event 7, a No Limit Hold'em tournament with a $1,500 buy-in finally was completed. Travis Johnson took home the top prize of over $650,000. Steve Karp finished in second, making $414,116.
Freddie Ellis became the oldest player ever to win a bracelet this week. Ellis took home the top prize in the World Championship Seven Card Stud event with a $10,000 buy-in. Ellis is from Brooklyn, and was returning there with $373,751 he won in the tournament.
The upcoming weekend figures to be a busy one in Las Vegas. Six tournaments are set to begin, two started today, two will begin on Saturday and another two on Sunday. Included in those tournaments will be the first Ladies event of this year's WSOP, on Sunday.
