Philanthropist Making Noise at World Series of Poker
Jamie Gold kept his lead at closing today at the World Series of Poker. Jamie wiped out 2 of his competitors in the span of an hour and by the end of the day he had double the chips of his nearest opponent.
Behind Gold at the end of the day Monday was was Erik Friberg, a 23-year-old online poker pro from Sweden, with 7. 7 million in chips.
David Einhorn, a 37-year-old hedge fund manager from New York ended the day in third with 6. 9 million chips after winning a big time three-way all-in pot.
The field's mouths all dropped when they heard Einhorn say he was playing for charity. He said he was playing for, "The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Anything I win goes to that. My grandfather had Parkinson's. I'm on the board of the charity, and Michael said if I make it to the final table, he'll fly out."
This may be the most humble and satisfying story of the tournament so far. Instantaneously Einhorn, a relatively unknown in the poker world, became a fan favorite and deservedly so.
