Every spring, thousands of poker players make their way to the biggest poker showcase in the world. The world series of Poker begins a week from Thursday, and already thousands of players are on their way to Sin City.

For some players, the trip to Las Vegas is more of a vacation. A week or two away from their everyday lives and while in Las Vegas, a couple of entries into the biggest tournaments of the year, that is the goal for some travelers.

"My friends and I have been coming (to Las Vegas) for five years in a row now," said Mario Bencada, from Florida. "We usually only enter a tournament or two, but the atmosphere during the World Series of Poker is something we cannot miss."

The main event at the WSOP is always the biggest draw in terms of prize money, but it is the $1,500 No-Limit events that many of the amateurs prefer to play in. The buy-ins are much less than the $10,000 main event, and at that price players can choose to take part in several tournaments instead of just one.

"I bring out $5,000 with me when I come for the WSOP," said Gary Bennett, "I play in two tournaments, and if I cash, then I enter another. I keep playing until I have made a score or I have lost all of my money."

Next week, the WSOP will get under way with the traditional casino workers tournament. Casino employees from all over the world can enter the tournament, and with many of these entrants dealers in their home casinos, the action can escalate quickly. The level of play at the first event is also some of the highest at any point in the WSOP.
