Poker Games Are Only About the Winning Hand
If there's a bottle of wine, a bowl of shrimp and a platter of chicken cacciatore, you know one thing, this is not your father's poker game.
"The food has evolved with the whole experience," says Bruce Garrett, who has a sit-down dinner using china and crystal with his fellow players. Garrett, former owner of Manhattan Grill and current manager of Racines, Dixons and Goodfriends in Denver, has been playing in a regular game for the past seven years.
Texas Hold 'Em may have drawn attention to the game, but in a busy world, monthly or weekly online poker games can be as much about food, folks and fun as they are about who has the winning hand. Garrett joined an all-male group. Shades of fraternities and sororities, sometimes it's all about the all-male or all-female bonding.
