Poker Players Unite For Protest on Eve of Congressional Hearing

Republicans are set to meet in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Thursday afternoon, and the basis of the meeting is a pending online gambling bill that would ban poker online.

Poker Players are getting prepared to protest the bill which, if passed, would certainly curtail a billion dollar industry.

The bill, which has already been approved by the House, and is waiting for approval from Congress, would pass federal law that prohibits financial transactions related to unlawful online gambling.

The fallout from the bill could lead to internet providers having to block access to offshore gambling sites.

Opposition of the bill comes primarily from Democrats who did not vote for it. The basis of their arguement is that it does not fully do what it sets out to. Lotteries and horse race betting would still be allowed and therefore creates loopholes in the bill.

The Poker Players Alliance, which includes thousands of poker players, is set to protest the bill.
