The World Series of Poker has enjoyed a tremendous growth spurt over the past ten years. Thousands of poker players, both pro and amateur, funnel into Las Vegas for a few months every summer.

The Series lasts into July and is capped by a Main Event that this year featured over 6,000 players. There are various ways of getting into the Main Event from satellite tournaments to the practical choice of simply putting up the ten grand entry fee.

Once the WSOP is over, however, the amateurs return to their daily lives and their daily jobs. For the professionals, however, they make their moves back to card tables all across the world.

The pros at this year's World Series put a beating on the amateurs. Usually the World Series of Poker is filled with stories of amateurs winning tournaments. That did happen this year, but not with the frequency that it occurred in past years.

The pros were everywhere at final tables throughout the Series. Several pros who have not won for a while took home bracelets, and others simply added to their trophy cases.

Now that the Series is over, it is back to work for the pros. They will once again begin battling against themselves, with no interference from amateurs. The end of the WSOP is just the beginning of card playing for professionals.
