The World Series of Poker Main Event final table is just over two months away and while the players are waiting for that event to take place, they have turned their attention elsewhere. The WSOP Europe Main Event began on Saturday, and all the top pros were there.

The tournament cost $14,240 to enter, but that was a small price to pay for poker pros who are out to show once again why they reign supreme in their sport. Not only have the pros come to the tournament, they are performing well in the early stages.

Gus Hansen, Freddy Deeb, and Dennis Phillips are all lingering near the top of the chip counts. With play only a day old, the chip counts can fluctuate greatly as players scramble to gain an advantage over their competitors.

It has not been all good news, however, for the pros. Jean Robert Bellande and JC Tran have already been eliminated. Chris Ferguson and Vitaly Lunkin are hovering near the bottom of the chip counts, but are both only one big hand away from being in the middle of the pack.

Jennifer Harman, always a popular player at these tournaments, has also been eliminated. The WSOP Europe Main Event is a nice lead-in for the poker community to the WSOP Main Event final table that will be held at the Rio in Las Vegas starting in early November.

There are several amateur players at the final table, but the general public will have one of their poker playing heroes to root for. Phil Ivey is at the final table, although he will have a lot of work to do as he comes in as one of the smaller chip stacks.
