Poker Series Main Event Prize Worth $10 Million is the best to play online poker!

First prize at the main event of this year's World Series of Poker is expected to be $10 million. Nice, but it's not the tournament that has Daniel Negreanu excited. Negreanu, who writes a weekly poker column in the Star, has red-flagged July 12 since the World Series of Poker announced the addition of the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. event.

"This new event has created such a buzz with the top players," Negreanu said recently by phone from a Las Vegas Poker Room. "This is the one where everyone's ego is on the line. Everyone's playing for pride and everyone's playing for what we consider the real world championship."

For the uninitiated, H.O.R.S.E., a combination of no-limit hold 'em, Omaha, razz, stud and stud eight or better, is the game of choice at the cash games played for the highest stakes and by the best players. Negreanu, who is one of those players, expects about 80 to 100 players to pony up the $50,000 entry fee. Compare that with the 5,619 who entered the $10,000 main event last year: This year's field is expected to be about 8,000.

As far as the main event, which begins July 28, Negreanu acknowledged it's hard to knock the potential payoff but, "It's too big to consider the actual world championship of poker where the guy who wins that is considered the world champion."
