Professional Poker Player Sheikhan Not Being Deported For Misdemeanor
Sean Sheikhan has had a misdemeanor charge from 1995 hanging over his head for over ten years, and on Thursday a judge ruled that he would not be deported for the charges.
U.S. Immigration Judge Harry Gastley made a ruling Thursday that not enough evidence was presented by the Department of Homeland Security, and that Sheikhan would not face deportation in the case.
The case stems from 1995 when Sheikhan was charged for misdemeanor sexual battery against a girl who was seventeen, he was in his early twenties at the time.
The judge made his decision after the Homeland Security Department failed to provide the court with what Sheikhan was convicted of or whether it was a conviction from judges ruling, plea, or trial by jury. Those records are not kept on misdemeanor charges for over ten years.
Sheikhan still faces the outside possibility of deportation, as the Homeland Security Department has until December 17th to appeal the judges decision.
