Rodriguez Grilled BY MLB Officials Regarding Illegal Poker Games

Alex Rodriguez has had to face many critics since he came into Major League Baseball as a teenager, and the allegations against the Yankees slugger continue to grow. The latest allegations have Rodriguez involved with an illegal high stakes poker game in California.

The game was attended, according to witnesses, by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Rodriguez, and other celebrities. Witnesses claim that the games were a norm, and that Rodriguez was a major player in many of the illegal games. One game in particular is what landed Rodriguez in MLB headquarters on Friday.

The league had said they were looking into the allegations that Rodriguez played in the poker game. The third baseman's publicist has denied that his client was involved in any way with the illegal activity. That is a sentiment that Rodriguez shared Friday with reporters after his meeting with the commissioner's office.

"They asked questions, and I answered them," said Rodriguez. "I'll let them review it, chew on it and then let them come back to us. All the lies, you just can't put up with that kind of stuff. You just want facts and you always want to be treated fairly and I think I have been."

The Yankees and manager Joe Girardi have steered clear of discussing the matter, only saying that if a problem arises, they will deal with the situation. Girardi reiterated that Friday, saying that as far as the team goes, it is a non-issue at the current time.

Rodriguez has previously been warned by MLB about his prowess of playing in illegal poker dens. The star was warned that he should stay away from these games back in 2005, and if the league finds that he ignored their warning, there is a chance he could be suspended down the stretch this season. At this point, analysts believe it is unlikely Rodriguez will be suspended.

The Yankees are currently one game behind the Boston Red Sox in the American League East. New York has played for much of the time since the All-Star break without Rodriguez, who underwent surgery shortly after the break. The third baseman recently returned to the lineup, but the return was short-lived after he hurt his thumb. Friday night he returned to the Yankees starting lineup for the second time in the second half of the season.
