Rumors Flying Over Possible Phil Ivey Sighting On PokerStars

Phil Ivey is one of the most well-known and respected poker players in the world. By many accounts, Ivey is the best cash player in the game. The poker pro had a huge following up until the time he decided to sit the World Series of Poker out in 2011.

Ivey was upset with Full Tilt Poker, the company that had given him a sponsorship deal. Full Tilt was indicted by the US Department of Justice in April last year for violating the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The company proceeded to not pay back millions of US customers after they shut down their US operations online.

Ivey responded by sitting out the WSOP, and launching a lawsuit against Full Tilt. In the months since, Ivey has been laying low in the poker scene, but this weekend, rumors started circulating that Ivey was playing online at PokerStars under the name RaiseOnce. That rumor was enough to have poker forums buzzing throughout the weekend.

RaiseOnce claims they are from Mexico, a place where Ivey owns a home. Ivey had not been playing at Full Tilt Poker since the day after Thanksgiving, and that was the exact time that RaiseOnce started playing at PokerStars. The rumors have not yet been confirmed, but Ivey would be a welcomed addition to the PokerStars team as they prepare for a possible re-entry into the US market.

If RaiseOnce is not Ivey, the player using the alias has studied Ivey well. Other players have asserted how RaiseOnce has the same message language, playing style, and betting habits as the popular poker pro. RaiseOnce is also well known for playing at multiple tables at once, a style that Ivey became well known for when he was creating his legendary status in the poker community.

Full Tilt, while they lost Ivey, has been sold to a European investment group. The group is working on a deal with the DoJ that will help US players recover the money that was in their accounts at the time of the indictment last year.
