The World Series of Poker has one tournament every year since 2006 that the players feel defines the best in the world. The $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. tournament is the one that all the pros point at when defining a champion.

A player must be able to play five different games well in order to survive and win the tournament. It also had added meaning this year after the passing of legendary player Chip Reese in December of 2007.

The tournament this year had a $50,000 buy in. The winner would not only receive the WSOP bracelet and just under $2 million in prize money, but also a special trophy named after Reese. This year, it was Scotty Nguyen who outlasted the competition.

Nguyen beat out a slew of the top poker pros in the world. The final three competitors were Nguyen, Michael DeMichele, and Eric Lindgren. Early Monday morning the three battled, but Nguyen came out on top.

DeMichele finished in second place, winning $1,243200. Lindgren was unlucky in the final three and finished in third. He took home $781,440. Huck Seed, a former world champion, finished the tournament in seventh, cashing in on $284,160.

148 players entered the tournament, but for the most part it was the pros that dominated. That has been the case for much of the World Series this year.

Phil Ivey finished the tournament in twelfth place. Daniel Negreanu, who is battling for player of the year honors, finished in thirteenth, and Andrew Block came in fifteenth.

Doyle Brunson, perhaps the player who was closest to Reese, finished the tournament in sixteenth place. He won $124,320 for his efforts.
