State Online Poker Champ Going to Las Vegas

By day, Claude Mason is an ordinary guy who coaches his kids' T-Ball team, chaperones class trips and works as a sales rep for Goodyear tire. But a secret talent for Texas Hold 'Em will land him with the high rollers at the 2006 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas from July 26 to Aug. 11.

Mason of Taylor was among about 3,200 Michigan residents to compete in SunPoker. com's "King of the Palace" competition that started in January. As the winner, he'll get a $10,000 seat to play at the tournament, plus air fare and accommodations for a 16-day stay at the Rio hotel and casino. He'll also get the chance to compete for some of an $80 million pot.

But he's just as excited about the prospect of an extended, all-expenses paid vacation with his twin 6-year-old boys, Sean and Michael, and his 9-year-old daughter, Lindsey. "My kids are thrilled to death about this," Mason said. "They're actually going with me on the trip, we're going to Hoover Dam and Lake Mead."
