Strip Poker Champion Crowned, 10,000 Pounds Goes to Charity
John Young, a 32-year-old freelance writer from Slough, a town just west of London, secured victory after an eight hour competition involving more than 200 men and women from 12 different countries.
After his win, Young then dropped his own shorts in order to meet the requirements needed for his 10,000 pounds of winnings to be matched and given to charity.
"We said we would give 10,000 pounds to Cancer Research if John dropped his trousers at the end of the match and he duly obliged," a spokesman for the Irish bookmaker, Paddy Power, said.
Paddy Power decided to hold the competition after an April Fool's joke generated a great deal more attention than anticipated early in the year.
The contest was taken very seriously by the organizers, strict rules of conduct were put into place. No funny business was allowed. Each contestant was given 5 pieces of clothing to start off the competition, along with a clean towel to sit on.
The contest was even held in the highly respected Cafe Royal in London in order to retain a high level of seriousness.
We are still checking with officials to see if they broke the Guiness Book Record for biggest ever Strip Poker game, but according to the event's organzier, it does not really matter, as the event was a success.
