A 21-year-old film student from Los Angeles has become the youngest player to win a World Series of Poker event.

Jeff Madsen, at 21 years, one month and nine days old, outlasted nearly 16-hundred players over three days to earn $661,000 Sunday night.

Madsen took $6,000 out of a college fund and was given $3,500 from his parents to put up stakes for several events this year.

Two weeks ago he placed third ahead of pros like Daniel Negreanu in an Omaha high-low event to win more than $97,000.

Madsen says he's been playing tournaments at an Indian casino in California since the age of 18.

The University of California, Santa Barbara student says the World Series was the first tournament he was eligible to play in Nevada, where the legal gambling age is 21.

The previous youngest player to win a World Series of Poker bracelet was Eric Froehlich, who won a 15-hundred dollar limit hold'em event last year at 21 years, three months and three days old.
