Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament Begins in Kokomo
Seventy players took their seats Thursday, with another eighty expected to compete tonight in the opening round of the Kokomo poker tournament. The championship of the poker event will play Saturday.
Organizers laid out strict rules for poker players at the start of the tourney. They included no alcoholic beverages, no smoking in the building and the use of profane language was prohibited. The first use of profanity would be met with a warning, and the second occurrence would place them out of the game for a 10-minute time-out.
Josh Lee, 23, a regular player at the Kokomo River Club, was there to observe and size-up the competition.
"I have been playing about three years," Lee said, who will take a seat at the card tables tonight. "It is fun and challenging.
"I think I'm a pretty good poker player," he said with a laugh and smile. "I have won a few poker tournaments."
With potential winnings of $15,000, Lee said this is the biggest tournament he will be involved in. His biggest winnings in the past was $800.
"I know a lot of the players," Lee said. "There are a lot of good people here. It should be a pretty good poker tournament. It will be tough to win."
