Thang Luu A Skilled Gambler, Wins WSOP Omaha Event Again
It is not often at the World Series of Poker where one player is lucky or skilled enough to win the same event in consecutive years. That is what happened in Event 3, a $1,500 buy-in, Omaha High-Low Split 8 or Better event.
Thang Luu won the event last year, and returned this year to defend his title. With over 900 players entered in the tournament, the odds were long against a repeat. Luu defeated those odds, and captured another bracelet.
"It's different this time," said Luu, when asked how it felt to win the tournament for a second consecutive year. "It's the second one, you know, back to back."
The big $40,000 entry Hold'em tournament also concluded. Vitaly Lunkin held off former WSOP Main Event champion Greg Raymer at the final table to capture the bracelet and the $1,891,012 that came with it. Raymer actually finished the tournament in third place, with Isaac Haxton coming in second.
On Monday, Pot-Limit Omaha and Seven Card Stud tournaments began. The Champions Invitational was also in progress. Doyle Brunson is one of the players still alive in this tournament.
