The World Series of Poker main event is enough to draw thousands of people to Las Vegas in the next week. Add in the Fourth of July festivities around the city and it has the makings to be one of the busiest weeks of the year in Sin City.

Many of the casinos on the Las Vegas Strip will be marking the Independence Day holiday with different festivities. Fireworks will be on display as the normally festive Strip becomes even more of a party destination this Sunday. By Monday, it will be the Rio that attracts most of the attention.

The main event begins on Monday, and over 6,000 players are expected to enter the $10,000 buy-in tournament. The top names in poker will all be on hand, and thousands of amateurs looking to become the next household name will also be in attendance. The first few days of the event will be magical for all those who enter.

Of course, there will be some majestic entrances. Phil Hellmuth has made a habit out of creating a show with his arrival for the main event. In past years, different themes have been used to mark Hellmuth's arrival. The rumors have already started flying here in Vegas as to how Hellmuth will show up this year.

While many players are looking forward to next week, some of the top players in the world are currently playing in the Tournament of Champions. The winner of the event will take home the first place prize of $500,000. Only twenty-seven players were invited to the event that carried no entry fee.

Seventeen players remain in the tournament from the starting field, and Mike Matusow has grabbed the chip lead with 85,500 chips. Huck Seed, who held the chip lead for much of the play today, has fallen to the second spot, with 73,000 chips. Johnny Chan, Scotty Nguyen, and Joe Hachem round out the top five chip stacks in the tournament.

After the Tournament of Champions concludes, there will be just eight events left before the start of the main event next week. The Ante Up for Africa tournament will be held this Saturday, with many of the top pros expected to take part in the event.
