It was not the World series of Poker but as far as the World Poker Tour goes, the World Championship event this past week is as big as they come. After a week of playing, Yevgenly Timoshenko came away from the tournament with the top prize.

Over 300 players flocked to the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada this past week to take part in the WPT World Championship. The top professional poker players in the world joined some amateur players in a race for the title.

Scotty Nguyen was in contention all the way into the final table. He ended up finishing the tournament in sixth place and winning $285,985. Timoshenko took home $2,149,960 for winning the tournament.

In the final hand of the event, Ran Azor raised to 800,000 with Q-C 10-D. Timoshenko went over the top all in with A-S 3-C, Azor then called quickly. The flop was Q-s J-S 7-D, pairing Azor's queen.

The river card K-C did not help either player, but did give Timoshenko a gut shot straight draw. The river came 10-S and Timoshenko completed his straight and won the tournament. Azor collected $1,446,265 for the second place finish.

Other top pros that finished in the top thirty in the tournament were Chris Ferguson at twenty-eight and Steve Billirakis at twenty-six. Jennifer Harmon also had a strong tournament and finished in eleventh place.
