Utah Poker Pro Seeks Financial Security at WSOP
Poker professional Pete Lawsone plays hard-driving, adrenaline-pumping rap into his headphones, but you wouldn't know it by looking at him during a poker match. He hunches over a green felt top table at the 2006 World Series of Poker, a dead look on his face. His eyes dart over his sunglasses, bouncing from one competitor to the next.
He watches their faces, hands and ultimately their moves. Lawson has more riding on these hands than just the chips at stake or his standing in the tournament. His goal is to string together enough good bets to achieve something relatively unheard of in the world of professional poker, financial security.
The 26-year-old Utahn is willing to take the gamble. He has been here at the World Series for more than a month, challenging poker legends, up-and-comers like himself and thousands of wannabes, hoping to ensure he'll never again need the cards to go his way in order to keep his house in the Draper foothills.
