Video Poker Owner Knew of Illegal Payouts
The owner of a video game provider accused of operating illegal games says in an affidavit that he knew some of his clients were paying illegal cash prizes, but he preferred not to know what they were doing. Michael Waguespack owns Funtime Amusements, which was ordered by a court to stop operating video poker games or selling assets tied to its video poker business while a lawsuit filed by Cumberland County officials is active.
Court documents say that, during a three-year investigation, undercover agents observed nearly $8,000 in illegal payouts from Waguespack's poker machines. In an April 28 deposition given to two agents from the state Alcohol Law Enforcement Division, Waguespack said he encouraged the businesses not to pay cash prizes, but he knew some did. "I really don't want to know," he said. "I would say one out of five locations are paying cash for credits won from playing video gaming machines. "
