Video Poker Owner Says Plan Was to Shift Focus
Michael Waguespack, owner of Funtime Amusements Inc., knew that some of his video poker clients were paying illegal cash prizes, but he preferred to remain ignorant of their activities, according to an affidavit. Waguespack talked about his video poker business in a partly typed, partly handwritten affidavit dated April 28.
He said that he was trying to quit video poker and shift into the ATM business. The affidavit is part of a lawsuit that was filed by Cumberland County to shut down Funtime Amusements. The suit accuses Waguespack of creating a criminal nuisance. Waguespack is barred from continuing his video poker business while the suit is pending. The affidavit was given to two agents of the state Alcohol Law Enforcement Division.
On April 28, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, Alcohol Law Enforcement Division and the FBI raided Waguespack's homes. The agents also raided businesses that operated Waguespack's video poker machines. The lawmen seized poker machines and more than $1 million in cash. Court documents say that during a three-year investigation, undercover lawmen observed nearly $8,000 in illegal payouts from Waguespack's poker machines.
