Women Becoming More Prevalent at Card Tables in Poker World
It used to be that men dominated the game of poker, and while they were out playing cards at night, women were home watching the kids and tending to the house.
This is not the scenario anymore, as women are becoming much more prevalent in a game that men once dominated.
Women that play cards used to be few and far between, but now, with the immense popularity of poker and through its television exposure, women have caught on to the game just as much as the men.
Take, for instance, the tournament this weekend that was held at Isles Casino and Racing at Pompano Park. The High Heels Poker Tour was held at the casino on Saturday, and the turnout was as big as any regular tournaments that are held.
103 women entered the tournament, and many played in the tourney because men were not allowed in.
Joan Shubert, a woman who has been playing poker for several years, had this to say about the tournament, "It is nice to have a tournament just for us ladies, when we play with the men, they think they know everything, so when we play against just women, the experience is much more enjoyable."
That sentiment is echoed by many women players who are glad that tournaments such as the one held Saturday are held only for women, and that they give women a chance to compete without having to deal with any male masochism.
