World Series of Poker Begins Today With Warm Up Events

Over the past few years the World Series of Pokers popularity has grown to unbelievable proportions, and 2007 should continue to see the world of live poker grow as Las Vegas prepares for professionals and amateurs to come together with a common goal, to win one of the events at the World Series.

The internet will play a big part in this years Series as organizers are planning to broadcast 10 final tables among the early events over the web, with only a 60 minute delay.

The top events will still be broadcast by ESPN, but the additional coverage of the smaller tourneys will only expand the popularity of the game of poker. Commissioner Jeffrey Pollack had this to say, "We've dialed it up a notch in terms of all of our broadcasting and media initiatives, this year, the World Series of Poker is being carried around the world and across every medium that matters with the same level of cutting edge thought that drives Nascar and the NBA."

This year will top last years number of 46 events by going to 55 events. The first event begins today with the main event starting on July 6th, and running through possibly the early morning hours of July 18th.

Three professionals to keep an eye on are Phil Hellmuth Jr., Doyle Brunson, and Johnny Chan, all of whom are searching for their 11th World Series bracelets.
