World Series Of Poker Heads To Last Weekend Before Main Event
The World Series of Poker has again been successful in bringing thousands of poker players to Sin City. Already, dozens of gold bracelets have been handed out, and this weekend a couple more will be won before the main event begins on Monday.
Event #50, a Pot-Limit Omaha tourney was the latest event to be completed, with Chance Kornuth taking home the top prize. Kornuth defeated fellow Colorado resident Kevin Boudreau heads-up to win the $508,090 first place prize money. Kornuth is from Denver and Boudreau from Colorado Springs.
Michael Linn emerged from a field of 2,543 to win Event #49, a No-Limit Hold'em tournament with a $1,500 buy-in. Taylor Larkin finished as the runner up, and Mihai Manole was third. US players took four of the top five spots, with Manole, from Romania, as the only player to keep the Americans from a clean sweep.
Event #51 has reached its final stages with only Jon Eaton and Ryan Welch left at the table. The Triple Chance No-Limit Hold'em tourney began back on Tuesday, and will conclude today. The players are holding almost identical chip stacks, and that could make for a long final table battle.
Frank Kassela, a player that has been at the top of several tournaments during the WSOP, is again in the lead in Event #52, a No-Limit Hold'em/Six-Handed tourney. Twenty-four players still remain out of the starting field of 191. Daniel Negreanu is lurking near the top with 1,068,000 chips, good enough for third place.
Today, the last event before the main event will begin at 5PM. The $2,500 buy-in is expected to attract thousands of players looking to tune up before the main event starts on Monday. The annual Ante Up For Africa Poker Tournament will be played on Saturday, with all of the sports top pros planning on being in attendance.
