World Series Of Poker Main Event Has Begun
All of the big names in poker are gathering for one tournament in Las Vegas. That tournament, the Main Event at the World Series of Poker, started on Friday at the Rio, and Eric Cloutier was the player that ended the day on top.
The WSOP is defined every year by the Main Event. It has made professional poker players out of amateurs, and has secured the legends of some of the top professionals in the world. Now, people travel from all across the world to participate in the tournament.
The economy will undoubtedly play a role in attendance at this year's event. Already, there has been a drop in numbers from previous years. On Friday, the first day of the tournament, 1,116 players entered. Saturday is July 4th, a holiday in the US, so attendance may once again be down.
"I think what we are going to see is a toned down Main Event this year," said observer Kelsey Barker, "the excitement will still be in the air, but the player field I believe will not be as large."
One thing that is known is that at some point Phil Hellmuth will arrive and make a grand entrance. In past years, Hellmuth has made some memorable entrances, with full use of props and an entourage. It is not yet known what Hellmuth's plan is for his arrival this year.
