When the World Series of Poker main event started a week ago Monday, thousands of players had their eyes set on becoming the next main event champion. By last Thursday, officials announced that 7,319 players had entered the tournament, the second most all-time.

Tonight, the starting field has been chopped to only forty-two players. The remaining participants will play down until there are only twenty-seven left, and those twenty-seven will play down to the November Nine on Saturday.

Currently, Cuong Nguyen is the chip leader with 19,520,000. Nguyen gained that chip lead on the last hand before the dinner break. Theo Jorgensen, a former bracelet winner, had been at the top of the leader board for much of the day, but made a tough call in this hand.

Nguyen went all-in with top pair (kings), and a medium kicker (jack.) Jorgensen called, and the two went to the turn and river with over nineteen million chips at stake. Jorgensen had a nut flush draw with clubs, but the turn and river both came red, and Nguyen took a commanding main event chip lead. Jorgensen was left with just over two million ships.

Michael Mizrachi, brother of Robert Mizrachi, is still alive with 3,655,000 chips. That chip count has Mizrachi in twenty-fourth out of the field of forty-two. The low stack at the tables is Hasan Habib, with just over 500,000 chips. Habib is the only player that currently has less than one million chips.

David Benyamine was one of the well known pros that fans were following into Friday, but his tournament ended with Benyamine in sixty-first place. Jean-Robert Bellande was also eliminated, finishing in seventy-seventh place.
