The 2010 World Series of Poker has been as much about the newcomers as it has been the pros this year. The main event, however, has one professional player sitting in perfect position to end all of the amateur players' dreams.

Johnny Chan has won the main event at the WSOP twice already. While most players are content if they cashed in one main event, to win two is almost out of the realm of possibility. Chan has been lurking near the top of the chip counts all week, and Wednesday was no different.

Currently, only 235 players remain from the starting field of 7,319. Every player that is left is guaranteed at least four times what they paid to enter the tournament. The next jump in money from the prize pool will come when the 172nd player is knocked out.

The chip leader as the players head for home on day five is Evan Lamprea from Canada. Lamprea has 3,660,000 chips. Matt Affleck is in second place with 3,400,000 chips. Theo Jorgensen, who already has a WSOP bracelet, is third with 2,900,000 chips.

Chan is sitting in the twenty-fourth spot, holding a chip stack of 1,750,000. The Mizrachi family is once again making noise at the WSOP, with Michael in thirty-fourth and brother Robert still alive but farther down in the chip counts.

Among the hard luck players that were eliminated on Wednesday were Vitaly Lunkin, Hoyt Corkins, Danny Mizrachi, and Sammy Farha. Day six will be held on Thursday, and day seven on Friday. By the end of Friday, only twenty-seven players will remain. On Saturday, those players will be trimmed to the November Nine.
