World Series Of Poker Main Event Update: Grospellier Takes Lead
The World Series of Poker Main Event started out this year like it was going to have many of the top players in the world competing for a final table appearance. Lately, the top pros have fallen, but not Bertrand Grospellier, who now has the chip lead.
Grospellier is sitting on top of the chip stacks with 1,720,000. He is folowed closely by Billy Kopp, Blair Hinkle, Mika Puumalainen, Harry Kazazian, Benjamin Jenson, and Ludovic Lacay, all with at least 1,400,000 chips.
Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth came into the single day play near the top of the chip counts, but both have taken a fall. Ivey's fall has not been near as far as Hellmuth, he still has 730,000 chips. Hellmuth had dropped all the way to 200,000 chips, before just picking up a big pot of 88,000, bringing his total to 288,000.
Lou Diamond Phillips, the highest remaining celebrity has 755,000 chips, still plenty to make a push in the coming days. There are currently eight players with over one million chips, and a bunch after that who are in the 900,000 range.
Play will continue all the way over the next week until the final table is reached. Once the tournament reaches a final nine, play will be suspended until November 7th. The players will be free to work on their skills for a couple of months in hopes of claiming the Main Event title at the end of the year.
