World Series Of Poker Main Event Update: Mizrachi Near The Top
The preliminary events are now complete and on Monday it was time to start the tournament that thousands of players have waited for. The main event at the World Series of Poker is now under way, and players are already jockeying for position.
Michael Mizrachi has had himself a strong WSOP so far this year. On Monday, Mizrachi again started strong, staying near the top of the chip stacks with many of the participants playing tight and trying to feel out their opponents. Although it is early, Mizrachi is one of the players that could go far into the tournament.
Chris Moneymaker, Vitaly Lunkin, John Cernuto, and Andy Black are just some of the big names that chose to start on the tournament's first day. On Tuesday, another batch of players will arrive at the Rio to begin their quest for a gold bracelet and the millions of dollars that come with winning the event.
A couple of big names have already busted out. It happens almost every year that one or two of the favorites bust out on the first day, and on Monday, one of those players is former bracelet winner Greg Rayner. Celebrity Ray Romano is also done after only a couple hours of play.
Las Vegas has been buzzing for weeks about the start of the main event. The Fourth of July holiday was spent by many poker players in Sin City. The partying that took place on Sunday may have led to the small turnout Monday. Only 1,125 players jammed into the Rio, and that is expected to be the slowest of the four day ones.
Mike Matusow made a strong run in the Tournament of Champions last week, and he was one of the pros that began on day one of the main event. T.J. Cloutier, Dewey Tomko, and Erik Seidel. Raymer not only was taken out of the tournament early, but his exit also came after the 2004 winner was the Master of Ceremonies for the first day.
