World Series Of Poker Recap: Frank Kassela Wins Razz Event

Las Vegas is making final preparations for what should be a major increase in tourists in the next two weeks. While the World Series of Poker has been going on for a month, the main event is less than two weeks away.

Players have been honing their skills with some of the lead-up events, and on Thursday, Frank Kassela became the latest player to win a WSOP bracelet. Kassela won Event #40, a Seven Card Razz tournament.

Kassela, from Rossville, Tennessee, defeated Maxwell Troy heads-up to win the top prize of $214,085. The buy-in for the tournament was $2,500, and 365 players entered. The top forty players all received a portion of the prize pool. Troy won $132,229 for his second place finish.

Thursday was a busy day with many tournaments entering their final stages. Steven Kelly emerged victorious in Event #39, a No-Limit Hold'em Shootout. Kelly outlasted 1,396 other players to win the gold bracelet and $381,927. Jeffrey King finished second, winning $236,818.

John Gottlieb is currently in control of Event #41, a Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better tournament. With five players remaining, Gottlieb has 1,940,000 chips. Steve Jelinek is second with 660,000 chips, followed by Michael Chappus at 400,000. Ben Lamb and Anders Taylor are the short stacks with 380,000 chips.

Event #44, a Mixed Hold'em tournament began on Thursday and 507 players entered. Although still over 125 player remain, Jim Collopy has the chip lead, with Eric Froehlick second. On Friday, two more tournaments are scheduled to begin as the main event draws one day closer.
