World Series Of Poker Results: Harris Leads Casino Employees Event

Play Poker at Doyles Room Now!

The World Series of Poker had finally arrived in 2010 on Friday, and plenty of buzz was surrounding the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. While the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em event kicked off the WSOP, it was the Player's Championship that had poker fans' attention.

At noon, the famous, "shuffle up and deal" announcement could be heard by all casino employees that entered the first tournament of 2010. Play continued throughout the afternoon, but by 5PM the focus of the day had shifted to the $50,000 Player's Championship in which many of the top pros in the world had entered.

Doyle Brunson was there, working his card magic early in the tournament that featured not just Hold'em, but also other poker games all wrapped into one tourney. Dan Shak became the first player eliminated in the event when he lost most of his chips to Dan Kelly, and a short time later, lost the rest of his stack.

Two players who are expected to do big things at this year's WSOP are Chris "Jesus" Ferguson and Howard Lederer. The pair both raised eyebrows when they were missing from the first major tournament of the summer, but concerns were eased when they showed up fashionably late.

The Casino Employees tournament had 721 players enter. The buy-in was $500, and the prize pool is $324,450. Of the hundreds of players that entered, only ninety are left late in the evening. Shaun Harris is the current chip leader with almost 100,000 in chips.

Today, play will continue in both events that began on Friday. The Casino Employees tournament will conclude, while the Player's Championship is scheduled to go on for five days. A $1,000 buy-in, No-Limit Hold'em tourney will also begin at noon.
