World Series Of Poker Takes A Break From Main Event Gambling
The World Series of Poker Main Event has now reached the point where all of the remaining players will be on the tables on the same day. That day will be Friday thanks to a break in the schedule on Thursday for players to meet with the media.
There are some big names still left in the field of 1,724. There were 6,494 players that started the tournament, meaning that more than half of the players have either gone home or will be watching the rest of the tournament from the rail.
Phil Ivey is awfully close to the top in chips, with 325,000. That places him in sixth place. JC Tran, Kenny Tran, Bertrand Grospellier, David Benyamine, Justin Bonomo, and Dan Harrington are all lingering near the top as well.
Jeffrey Lisandro, who has already captured three WSOP bracelets this year, is threatening to have the best year ever at the WSOP. He has 180,000 chips, more than enough to become a major factor moving forward on Friday.
Phil Helmuth is still playing, as is Joe Hachem, last year's winner Peter Eastgate, John Juanda, and Jennifer Harmon. Celebrities still left in the tournament include Lou Diamond Phillips and Jordan Farmar.
Play will begin again on Friday and will continue every day until the final table is reached. Once the final table is set, the players will break for several months, and then resume play to finish the tournament on November 7th.
