World Series Of Poker: Top Gambler Ivey Wins Eighth Bracelet
Phil Ivey had won seven World Series of Poker bracelets before Tuesday, but the accomplishment Ivey achieved yesterday was one of the greatest of his career at the WSOP. Ivey won bracelet number eight in Event #37, a Ho.O.R.S.E. tournament.
The final table of this event looked like one that could have been hand picked for television. Five of the eight players sitting at the final table had won WSOP bracelets before. The player Ivey beat heads-up, Bill Chen, has two bracelets to his credit.
Chen is considered to be one of the top player in the world, but even a three and a half to one chip lead could not hold up against the unflappable Ivey. When the tournament had ended, it was the bracelet, and not the $329,840 cash prize, that Ivey cherished.
"I think I can win thirty gold bracelets," said Ivey, as reported on the WSOP website. "I think I can reach that if I keep playing and stay healthy." Ivey moved himself into a tie for fifth all-time with Erik Seidel in total bracelet wins. Phil Hellmuth remains on top of that list.
In other WSOP action from Tuesday, Event #36, a No-Limit Hold'em tourney with a $1,000 buy-in, has reached the final table. Sebastien Roy is the chip leader with 1,867,000 chips. Timothy Beeman is second with 1,788,000 chips, and Michael Michnik is the short stack at the table with 307,000 chips.
Four other tournaments are also in progress, with the Pot-Limit Hold'em Championship featured. Tom Marchese is the chip leader with ten players remaining.
On Wednesday, a $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em tournament begins at noon, and at 5PM, the H.O.R.S.E. World Championship with a $10,000 buy-in commences. I
