World Series Of Poker Tournament Of Champions Begins Today
Fans have voted, and it comes as no surprise that twenty-seven of the biggest names in poker will be squaring off in the Tournament of Champions that begins today at the World series of Poker. All of the top household names will be on hand for the event.
The most notable of the players, of course, is the most popular player on the planet these days, Phil Ivey. After winning his eighth WSOP bracelet this past week and moving into the top five of all-time in bracelet wins, Ivey will be poised to win the $1 million Tournament of Champions prize.
Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, Scotty Nguyen, Chris Ferguson, and Jennifer Harman are just a few of the high profile players that will be taking part in the tournament. Of all of the events at the WSOP, it is the Tournament of Champions that draws the biggest fan support.
Many of these players will be working on their game in preparation for the Main Event that begins in less than two weeks. Last year, Ivey made it to the final table at the Main Event, but he was unhappy that he was unable to complete the journey with a win.
Other players to keep an eye on in the twenty-seven player field are Bertrand Grospellier, Antonio Esfandiari, and Joe Cada. Past winners in the field include Mike Matusow, Annie Duke, and Mike Sexton, who won the tournament the most recent time it was played in 2006 at the Rio in Las Vegas.
The Tournament of Champions event is the only one scheduled to begin today. On Monday, two tournaments will commence, with one on Tuesday, two on Wednesday, two Thursday, and on Friday. The annual Ante Up for Africa tournament will be played on Saturday, and the Main Event begins Monday, July 5th.
