World Series of Poker Update from Vegas

Don Barton and Al Morris of Pahrump cashed in at the 37th World Series of Poker, currently underway at the wonderful Rio Casino-Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Barton, a Pahrump businessman who finished 10th in the 2001 Main Event, earned $3,790 for finishing 78th in the $2,500 buy-in Shorthanded tournament.

Dutch Boyd won that tournament, earning $425,712 out of a prize pool totaling $1.8 million, paid in by 824 players. Morris, a former poker dealer and a photographer at the Pahrump Valley Speedway, was 52nd in the $2,000 buy-in Omaha Hi-Low Split tournament, pocketing $3,049.

Jack Zwerner, a Las Vegas resident, won the tournament which drew 670 players and generated a prize pool of $1.3 million. Zwerner's payoff was $341,426. The World Series of Poker runs through Aug. 10 at the Rio, where play is contested in the convention center.
