One of the premiere events at the World Series of Poker came to an end on Wednesday, and it was not top poker pros Jennifer Harman or John Juanda that took home the top prize. Instead, Harman and Juanda were beaten out by Frank Kassela from Memphis, Tennessee.

Harman had spent some time as the chip leader, but the cards did not fall her way down the stretch. Kassela, on the other hand, played brilliantly and walked away with the first place prize of $447,446. Allen Kessler also was able to sneak in ahead of Harman, who finished third.

The Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better World Championship event had 170 players enter. The buy-in for the tournament was 410,000, and the competition was fierce down to the final hand. Kassela pulled two pair on fifth street, and then the hand held up against eights and tens.

Carter Phillips was another of the big winners on Wednesday. Carter outlasted 1,663 other players in Event #16, a No-Limit Hold'em/ Six Handed tournament. The first place prize money was $492,774. Samuel Gerber finished as the runner-up, winning $298,726.

Event #13, a $1,000 buy-in, No-Limit Hold'em tourney concluded with Steven Glee leaving as the champion. Glee, from Sacramento, California, won $472,479, along with the coveted WSOP bracelet. Matthew Vance finished in second and collected $292,232 for his efforts.

One tournament that began Tuesday, and two that started Wednesday are still in progress. On Thursday, two more events are scheduled to begin. At noon, a Pot-Limit Omaha tourney begins, and at 5PM a $1,500 Seven Card Stud tournament will start. Friday, a Ladies No-Limit Hold'em Championship will get under way.
