World Series Of Poker Update: Kassela Wins Bracelet Number Two
Frank Kassela was not having an easy go of it early on in Event #40, a Seven Card Razz tournament. By the end of the event, however, Kassela became the first two-time winner at this year's World Series of Poker.
Kassela was down to just over 5,000 chips early in the tournament and faced the prospects of having to catch a chip leader that held over fourteen times as many chips as Kassela. Instead of panicking, Kassela played smartly and after a couple of breaks moved himself up the leader board.
The final table was one of chaos with the lights going out at the Rio in Las Vegas. In fact, much of the city had lost power. When the lights came back on, Kassela took control of the tournament and walked away with the top prize of $214,084. Maxwell Troy finished in second place, winning $132,229.
Steve Jelinek had the luck of the cards in Event #41, a Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better tourney. Jelinek beat out John Gotlieb for top honors, and left the tournament $245,871 richer. Gottlieb received $151,884 for his second place finish, and Anders Taylor finished third, winning $97,913.
Six players remain in Event #42, a No-Limit Hold'em tournament. Aaron Keiser is the chip leader at the final table, with 12,415,000 chips. Dean Hamrick is in second position with over 2.3 million chips. Ryan Hemmel is the short stack at the table, holding only 740,000 chips.
Today, a $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em tourney begins at 12PM, and a $2,500 Mixed tournament starts at 5PM. On Sunday, the WSOP Tournament of Champions will commence. Next week, two events are scheduled to start on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and one event each on Tuesday and Friday.
