World Series Of Poker Wrap Up: Six Tourneys Currently In Progress
The World Series of Poker started slowly, with only a couple of events, but this weekend the WSOP has gone full throttle. Heading into the early hours of Sunday, six tournaments were currently in progress.
Event #9, a Pot-Limit Hold'em tournament with a $1,500 buy-in is the closest to concluding. Only two players are left from the field of 650. Steve Chanthabouasy and James Dempsey are battling for the bracelet and the first place prize of $197,470.
The Seven Card Stud World Championship event has reached the final table, and only six players remain. Michael Mizrachi is the story here, having already won the Poker Player's Championship earlier in the week, Mizrachi is sitting in fourth place in the chip count.
One of the bigger fields of the WSOP so far was in Event #11, a No-Limit Hold'em tournament with a $1,500 buy-in. Over 2,500 players entered the tournament, and currently there are 105 remaining. The chip leader is John Nguyen with 364,000 chips. Christopher Giddings is second with 346,000 chips.
Sixty-three players remain in the $1,500 buy-in, Limit Hold'em event. Jameson Painter is the chip leader with Kirk Banks second. The winner of this tournament will win $189,870 in addition to the coveted WSOP champions bracelet. A 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit) tournament and a No-Limit Hold'em tournament both began on Saturday and are in their early stages.
Sunday will be a light day in terms of new tournaments with only a Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better World Championship event starting. The buy-in for the tournament is $10,000, and the cards will be in air at 5PM. Several of the ongoing tournaments will conclude on Sunday, so check back with CGW for updates on the winners.
