World Series of Poker Kicked Off in Vegas Yesterday is the best to play online poker!

Nolan Dalla is the media director for the World Series of Poker, which kicked off this week in Las Vegas. I was fortunate to get a few minutes to chat with him about the WSOP and all things poker.

Nolan has written exciting play-by-play coverage of many major tournaments. One piece in particular is dear to my heart. In 2003, he reported on the World Poker Open in Tunica, Miss. The Pot Limit Hold 'Em event was won in spectacular fashion by my boyfriend, John Trudeau. Short-stacked at the final table, John went all-in, and won, a mind-boggling nine times.

Nolan dubbed him "The Cat" for his nine lives, and called it "one of the most stunning displays of tournament poker ever recorded." Nolan remembers it well. Moving on to this year's WSOP, I inquired about a new event called H.O.R.S.E., which is a combination of five different poker games played in succession.

It's not for the novice, given the entry fee of $50,000. Nolan explained that it came about when the Player Advisory Council recommended that a very elite, high-stakes event be added. With 100 entrants expected, the payouts will be phenomenal. We discussed the Ladies Event, in which I am competing on July 10. Actress Jennifer Tilly's win last year garnered much-needed media exposure for women in poker. Nolan expressed disappointment that there are no plans to televise it this time.

I'm disappointed too I was counting on being on TV when I get to that final table!

They are expecting over 7,000 players at the Main Event, with the winner likely to top defending champion Joe Hachem's payout of $7.5 million.
