WSOP Europe Main Event Ends With Five Hours Of Heads-Up Gambling
The World Series of Poker Europe Main Event will be one to remember for Daniel Negreanu and Barry Shulman. The two players took turns eliminating opponents at the final table until they were the only ones left standing.
What ensued was a five hour marathon of heads-up poker. Negreanu went into the heads-up play as a 2-1 chip leader, but came out as the runner up after Shulman won the final two hands in dramatic fashion.
On the second to last hand of the tournament, Shulman woke up with pocket aces. Negreanu was holding Q-c, J-d. The flop came out 5-d, 8-d, J-c. After betting back and forth, Shulman eventually pushed all-in. Negreanu called, then proceeded to hit a jack on the turn. The river came the ace of diamonds, and Shulman took down the hand.
The following hand had Shulman with pocket tens to Negreanu's pocket fours. They both pushed and Shulman caught his ten to hit his set, which, in turn, ended Negreanu's amazing run through the final table.
With Shulman's victory, the family now has a chance to do something that has never been done. His son, Jeff Shulman, is one of the nine participants at the WSOP Main Event final table in November, and if he wins, they would become the first father son duo to ever sweep the WSOP main events.
As was the case last year, this year's WSOP Europe Main Event had November Nine participants going deep into the tournament. Antoine Saout actually made it all the way to the final table in the Europe event that concluded on this past Thursday.
