WSOP: Main Event Player Estimates Are Out on Day 1B
There have been all kinds of numbers circulating from various news agencies as to how many players will be in this years main event, but now we have an estimate of about 6,000 players coming from our sources in Las Vegas.
Day 1b has had a bit of everything from bad beats to celebrities, it also was the day that most of the top known professionals made their way into the tournament.
Some of the pros' stay in the tournament did not last very long, as both Howard Lederer, and his sister, the popular Annie Duke, were eliminated in Saturday's action.
As far as the atmosphere, the day began with much more intensity than in day 1a, maybe due to the emergence of some more professional players than on the first day.
As far as the numbers, 1545 players started the tournament on Saturday, with 1606 registered to begin play on Sunday, anyone else who wants to join the event will start on day 1d on Monday, which with projections bringing the overall total to around 6,000. That is a significant decline from last year's main event, but still keeps the prize pool at around an amazing $60 million.
Among the celebrities that entered the tournament on Saturday were Montel Williams and last year's champion Jamie Gold.
