WSOP Recap: Watt, Matros, And Chen All Win Bracelets
This past weekend gave fans a glimpse of how hectic the World Series of Poker can get. At one time, there were six tournaments all running at the same time, but by Sunday several of those events had concluded.
On Monday, another round of tournaments came to an end, with three players walking away with bracelets. Matthew Matros, Simon Watt, and Yan Chen all become WSOP champions on the same day.
Event #11 was a No-Limit Hold'em tournament that carried a $1,500 buy-in. Watt outlasted Tom Dwan to win the top prize of $614,248. Dwan won a hefty consolation prize, pocketing $381,885 for his second place finish. David Randall also took home over $250,000 for finishing third.
Matthew Matros took top honors in Event #12, a Limit Hold'em tournament that began with 625 players vying for the $189,870 first place prize. Matros defeated Ahmad Abghari heads-up to win the bracelet. Abghari won $117,272, and Terrance Chan came in third, netting $83,185. The top sixty-three players all won a piece of the prize pool.
The other event that came to an end on Monday was a 2-7 Draw Lowball (No-Limit_ tournament. Only 250 players were entered in this event, and Yan Chen came out victorious. Chen, from Las Vegas, won $92,817, significantly more than the $1,500 buy-in he paid to enter the tournament. Twenty-eight players cashed in this event.
With all of the tournaments ending, there still were three that were ongoing into Tuesday. Event #13, a No-Limit Hold'em tournament has over 100 players left from the starting field of 3,042. The Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better World Championship that began Sunday, and a No-Limit Hold'em/Six Handed tourney that started Monday are also in progress.
