WSOP Report: Celebrity Montel Williams Raising Stakes on Day 1B
Montel Williams has been known over the years for his strong stances on many family issues, issues that have fueled his television talk show, but Williams is showing that there is more to him than just talk, he is making a splash at the World Series of Poker.
Williams increased his chip stack to 150,000 in a hand where he held A-K, his opponent held a pair of J's, Williams opened the betting by raising to 2,000, an opponent went all in for 33,725, Williams called, the flop came A hearts, 10 spades, 6 hearts, pairing Williams ace. The turn was a 6 diamonds, and the river 4 clubs, and Williams took another big pot.
Other players that are making a move early in the tournament are former champions Robert Mizrachi, who used pocket aces to expand his chips to 35,000, and Joseph Hachem, who cracked pocket aces to advance his chip count to 30,000.
Although players were being busted out by the minutes, it still does not match yesterday's speed of knocking each other out, today, in one level, there were 198 players busted out, that comes out to 1.5 players per minute.
ESPN and the World Series of Poker have done an incredible job in promoting this tournament, consider this, a player puts up $10,000 to enter in the event, then, those players get knocked out on the first day at a rate of 1.5 players per minute. That means, essentially, that your playing poker with the dream of winning millions, but in reality, you could be losing $10,000 for your two minutes of play.
Day 1A and 1B have been exciting and eventfull, stay tuned to see what's in store for day 1C.
