WSOP Report: Latest Results Affect Player of The Year Standings

Often overlooked at the World Series of Poker is the effect that the outcome of all of these tournaments could have on the race for player of the year honors, and in one of the latest tournaments to finish, the results directly altered the leaderboard.

Event # 38 was a $1500 buy in, No Limit Hold'em Tournament and the winner was Robert Cheung, winning $673,628 in prize money. second place went to Richard Murnick, claiming $417,117. The big story of the tournament, however, was Chris Bjorin, whose sixth place finish netted him $87,215, but more importantly, he moved into second in the player of the year standings. Jeffrey Lisandro currently leads the standings with just over a 40 point lead. Phil Hellmuth is lurking in fourth place.

In other action, event #40, a $1500 buy in, Mixed Hold'em Limit/No Limit tourney, Fred Goldberg won first place and $205,271. Rene Mouritsen finished second, taking home $126,099.

The first senior event of this years series also came to an end with Ernest Bennett taking first place and $348,423. Anthony Korfman was the runner up, winning $217,503. The tournament was No Limit Hold'em mand had a $1000 buy in.

Other tournaments that are currently in progress are #39, and #s 42-44.
