WSOP Update: Matusow Leading The Tournament Of Champions Event
The World Series of Poker is powered by star power, and the Tournament of Champions event has some of the top poker personalities in the world playing this year. With seventeen players remaining, Mike Matusow is the chip leader.
It is not as if Matusow will have an easy run through the rest of the tournament. Waiting behind Matusow are the cream of the crop when it comes to tournament players. It is unlikely that any of the remaining players will bow out easily.
Huck Seed led much of the early stages of the tournament, and he sits in second position with 73,000 chips to Matusow's 85,500. Johnny Chan, Scotty Nguyen, and Joe Hachem are in positions three through five.
If it is the rest of the field that Matusow plans to pad his chip stack with, he had better be ready for battle. Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Annie Duke, Chris Ferguson, Bertrand Grospellier, and Jennifer Harman are just some of the players that are still alive and have their sights set on winning the $500,000 top prize.
The Tournament of Champions is held every couple of years, and this year, players won their seats to the freeroll event through a fan vote. Of course, the fans chose some of the top personalities in poker, and it has led to an entertaining tournament so far.
The second place finisher will take home $250,000. Third place will receive $100,000, and fourth through ninth will all be rewarded for their time and effort with $25,000. The blinds currently are 500/1000, and there is a 100 ante. Play will continue until a champion is crowned later this week.
